Which important values can be derived from the concept of decentralisation?
Ans. A federal system of government is one in which there is a constitutional deconcentration of political powers which cannot be changed easily. When , power is taken away from Central and State Governments and given to local government, it is called decentralisation.
The important values derivedfrom this concept of decentralisation are
(i) It is an important means of power sharing which gives better administration.
(ii) Involving local people in administration, it uses local people’s experience in solving local issues.
(iii) It promotes people’s direct participation in decision-making process which includes the habit of democratic participation among people.
(iv) Local government is the best way to realise one important principle of democracy viz, local self-government
