What is the meaning of following quote: “When any nation mistrusts its citizens with guns, it is sending a clear message. It no longer trusts its citizens because it has evil plans”. Who is the author?
This is a quote that has been widely used by pro-gun activists within the United States in order to campaign for a restriction on gun control. The quote was attributed to George Washington but it is clear that he never said these words but they were instead written by a pro-gun activist, Joe Spenner. The apparent meaning of the quote is that when a government takes away its civilians’ guns, it means that the government is trying to take away the rights and freedoms of the people, and so it must have insidious plans. In reality, gun control is usually instated in order to protect the people of the nation and in order to reduce gun violence and gun related incidents.
