Modification of root is the change in the shape, size, structure and normal functioning of root to perform some secondary functions.
(i) Banyan tree It has huge, pillar-like prop roots hanging from the aerial branches.
They support the expanding canopy of the trees.
(ii) Turnip In this root, the tap root becomes swollen with reserve food material.
(iii) Mangrove trees They have pneumatophores. These are the roots which grow vertically upwards and come above the ground level. They hear openings called pneumatophores, which help in taking oxygen from the air.
