What did the Vietnamese derive from the ‘Go East’ movement?

  • In 1907-08, some 300 Vietnamese students went to Japan to acquire modern education.
  • Their primary object was to drive out French from Vietnam and re-establish the Nguyen dynasty, that had been removed by the French.
  • These nationalists looked for foreign arms and help.
  • Vietnamese students established a branch of ‘Restoration Society’ in Tokyo but after 1908, the Japanese ministry arrested them and later, forced them to leave Japan.
