What are the characteristic features of prokaryotic cell?

The outer covering of protoplasm of bacterial cell is called as cell envelope, which is consist of three components : Glycocalyx, cell wall and cell membrane.
(2) Cytoplasm is granular, crystallo-colloid complex that forms the protoplasm.
(3) The genetic material of prokaryotes is called as nucleoid. Nucleoid consists of a single circular strand of DNA duplex.
(4) Some additional rings of extra chromosomal DNA are called plasmids which can replicate independently.
(5) Bacteria bear flagella for locomotion. Bacterial
flagellum is made up of 3 parts : basal body, hook and filament.
