What are reactive intermediates? How are they generated by bond fission?

The reaction intermediates are those chemical species which are produced during the course of the reaction. There are three reactive intermediates carbocation, carbanion and the free radical. Carbocation and carbanion are generated by the heterolytic bond fission while free radical is produced by homolytic bond fission.
