What are neuroglia cells ? Describe their functions

Neuroglia or neuroglial cells are specialized cells found in the brain and spinal cord. Neuroglia are astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and microglia. Functions : (a) The astrocytes are thought to seperate and provide mechanical support to the neurons.
(b) They also insulate adjacent neurons so that impulses pass from one neuron to the next only over the synapse where packing cells are missing.
© Astrocytes play a role in maintenance of the blood brain barrier.
(d) The oligodendrocytes form myelin sheath around the axon that lie within the central nervous system.
(e) The microglia engulf microbes and cellular debris.
