(i) In sexual reproduction fusion of male and female gametes takes place, these germs cells/ gametes contain half the number of chromosomes compared to non-reproducing body cells.
(ii) When male and female gametes fuse at the time of fertilization, it restores the original number of chromosomes (of the parent), ensuring the stability of species.
