Ok so i have to use a vertical motion model to find how long it would take for an object to get to the ground…?
Vertical motion model is given with formula:
h= height of an object after t seconds
t= time in seconds
v= initial velocity in feet per second
s= initial height in feet
If the desired result is to find the time it takes the object to get to the ground, we have to solve equation for t with v and s given. Since the object hits the ground, we solve for h=0 because height is 0 when object is on the ground. This yields quadratic equation for t:
−16t2+vt+s=0, where v,s are given
Also, factor -16 represents acceleration of gravity so there is no confusion in units.
