(i) George Gamow suggested that the genetic code should be made up of a combination of three nucleotides.
(ii) He proposed that there are four bases and 20 amino acids. So, there should be atleast 20 different genetic codes for these 20 amino acids. The only possible combinations that would meet the requirement is combinations of 3 bases that will give 64 codons.
