There are following merits of standard deviation :
(i) It is rigidly defined.
(ii) It is capable of further algebraic treatment.
(iii) The calculation is not difficult.
(iv) Standard deviation is considered to be an ideal measure.
(v) It is not much affected by fluctuations of sampling.
