It’s often said that the Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton.This means that Britain’s military success was based on the values taught to school boys in its public schools. Eton was the most famous of these schools. The English boarding school was the institution that trained English boys for careers in the military, the civil service and the church, the three great institutions of imperial England.

(a) Eton was the most famous school of England, where the best type of military training was given to the students for careers in the military, the civil service and the church. Here high values of life were taught to the students.
Thomas Arnold, founder of the modern public school system saw that cricket is the best way to teach the high values of social service, the importance of hierarchy, discipline, courage, qualities of leadership, etc to the students.
Thus, it is said that Britain’s military success was based on the values taught by the public school.
