Is there any historical accuracy in the movie “Fury”?
There is a modicum of historical accuracy within the 2014 film Fury in that the uniforms, terminology and weapons used were extremely accurate within the production of film. The tanks used were loaned from a British museum and were the same tanks used in the Normandy invasions of 1944.
It is also true that a tank called Fury was involved in this invasion and was well known for its excellent crew, with over 250 confirmed vehicle kills on their record. In regards to tank and infantry tactics, however, it is clear that many aspects were adapted for Hollywood and the final culminating scene of the crew ambushing the German battalion of SS would have been a complete defeat for the Fury crew in real life. In general the uniforms, attitude, and atmosphere of the film were accurate but the tactics and story were most certainly embellished for entertainment reasons.
