Is it possible to convert sesterces to dollars? I would like to know how rich were aristocrats in Ancient Rome.
Conveniently, one sesterce converts to around one US dollar, which makes it rather convenient for finding out how wealthy the aristocrats of Rome were. For example, Augustus Caesar could be valued at around 14.6 trillion dollars, but this is including all of the possessions and properties of the Roman Empire.
Interestingly, one of the richest Romans in history was not an aristocrat but a charioteer, Gaius Diocles, who was worth around 35,863,120 sesterces, or 35 million dollars.
