How were zeppelins used in ww1? Were they efficient?
Zeppelins were used by the German army in WWI primarily for reconnaissance and for bombing raids, although they were quickly proven to be extremely ineffective at both due to their lack of armor and flammability.
At the beginning of the war zeppelins were used for reconnaissance missions but were severely restricted by their speed and inability to withstand any form of heavy fire. Eventually these reconnaissance missions were abandoned.
Zeppelins also conducted bombing raids on a number of major cities in Europe but the results were always underwhelming, with most zeppelins being heavily damaged without dealing any major casualties whatsoever. They were gradually replaced by aircraft, which were far quicker, more efficient, and less prone to damage by enemy fire.
