Jim Morrison’s father, George Stephen Morrison, was a rear-admiral in the American Navy and an influential member of American military history. He joined the navy in 1938 and was later sent to Hawaii, where he witnessed the attacks on Pearl Harbor. He later became a pilot for the navy and performed numerous missions in the war in the Pacific. After the end of the war he remained in the Navy and was in charge of the Carrier Division of the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which formally began the Vietnam War. He died in 2008, and was cremated.
