How was homsexuality viewed in Ancient China?
Homosexuality was a largely normal facet of life in China until well into the 19th century. Many ancient Chinese texts talk of homosexuality and how it was not only normal but often encouraged for men to have male partners as well as a wife.
Many emperors were known and open homosexuals and it was not seen as a taboo subject in any way throughout Ancient China. It was only with the introduction of Western influences in the 19th century that homosexuality became a more denigrated subject within Chinese society.
