How often was brazen bull, the torture with heaten metal, used in ancient Greece?
The use of the Brazen Bull was most likely a fabrication invention by Greek historians in order to create an engaging story and may have been a misunderstanding or mistranslation of other sources. the main source of evidence for the Brazen Bull comes from Diodorus Siculus, one of the most unreliable and inconsistent historians of antiquity.
It may be that the story of the bull came from a misunderstanding of Carthaginian religious traditions, who had a strong and popular religion based on the worship of a sacred bull. There has never been any archaeological findings in relation to the Brazen Bull and no evidence of it ever being used on individuals. Even if it did exist it was probably used on rare occasions and as an extreme form of punishment.
