How often was a knight’s armor damaged? How did they repair the armor?
By the rise of plate armor in the Late Medieval Period, most armor worn by knights would be extremely well wrought but also damaged on almost a daily basis. Hinges, dents, gaps, and other forms of damage would be extremely common in battle and it would almost be expected for knights’ armor to sustain at least some form of minor damage in battle. As only the wealthiest of soldiers would wear this form of armor, they would also have the money to have a team of smiths to aid in the repair or replacement of the pieces of armor on an almost continuous basis.
