How much do we know about Carthaginians? What did they look like?
As no written sources survive from Carthaginian society, we largely have to rely on archaeological evidence along with outside descriptions of their culture, primarily from ancient Roman sources. We do know both from archaeological and historical records that the Carthaginians were originally Phoenicians and the city began as a trading colony for the Phoenicians due to its location on the Mediterranean and the extremely fertile land along its coast.
We know that Carthage kept the Phoenician religion and worshiped the same gods along with having the same alphabet. We also know that their wealth largely came from sea trade and the control of shipping routes throughout the Mediterranean. It is most likely that they looked like modern Tunisians with dark skin and hair, brown eyes, and a relatively average height.
