How long did the average sword fighting last in medieval times?
Contrary to the duels shown in most Hollywood films, sword fighting is an incredibly tiring and physically exhausting act that would only last a short amount of time. In general, only one mistake is needed for an individual to lose a sword fight and be maimed or killed by their opponent and often these mistakes would occur in a matter of seconds instead of minutes.
Even in battle it was common for organized armies to create ranks of soldiers that would be swapped between on the front lines in order for their soldiers to be able to rest between engagements. In short, most sword fights would be relatively quick and would be over in just a few moves.
