How good was American artillery in ww2 compared to German artillery?
If one compares the physical weapons of the American and German artillery crews, it would seem as if the Germans would have the slight advantage, but in reality this was not the case. The US armed forces realized even before joining the war that a superior artillery force would not be achieved through larger guns but instead through a better supply and communication system.
In regards to this, the US forces were far more superior in their organization, training, reconnaissance, and supply lines. This meant that the US artillery could easily target high priority locations, could be transported more quickly, and could zero in on advancing troops far quicker than the Germans, which was of vital importance during the war and was a central factor in the eventual German defeat.
