how do you multiply polynomials ??? especially the ones with exponents ?!
Example 1: Using the F.O.I.L. method - “First, Outer, Inner, Last.”
(3x + 1) (x - 4)
= 3x^2 - 12x + 1x - 4
= 3x^2 - 11x - 4
Example 2: Multiplying a binomial by a trinomial - You look at the two terms in the binomial out in front. First, multiply the first term by all three terms in the second parenthesis. Then, go back and multiply the second term (in the first parenthesis) by all three terms in the second parenthesis. Finally, combine all like terms.
(x + 5) (x^2 - 4x + 8)
= x^3 - 4x^2 + 8x + 5x^2 - 20x + 40
= x^3 + x^2 - 12x + 40
