How did western civilization develop the values that came to dominate the world after the year 1000?
This problem is actually problematic on two fronts:
1. “Values” are too relative and fluid to be seen as a solid western thing, especially one that led to “world dominance”. I.e. the values of the average 1776 American would have been much different from those of an average Hungarian.
2. The west did not dominate the world (if at all) until the Second Industrial Revolution and the onset of empires. Just to name one example out of many, the power and wealth of Europe and the west paled in comparison to that of Ming China.
