It was the society which encouraged women to look for good marriage and find rich and wealthy husbands.
Jane Austen’s major preoccupation was with the fate of women in the society of her time. Austen’s heroines were intelligent, they exercised reasons, they were held in high esteem by the men whom they loved, who loved them and whom they married. In her novels women were sympathetically and rationally portrayed in Britain.
