Ans. As London grew, crime flourished here, many poor people lived by stealing lead from roofs, food from shops, lumps of coal, and clothes drying on hedges.
There were also cheats and tricksters, pickpockets and petty thieves in London. Crime became an object of British society. Poverty was the root cause of this problem.
