How did the IWW differ from the knights of labor and the AFL?
The Knight of Labors believe in broad social reforms. They want equal pay for those who work for eight hours in a work day. They do not believe in strikes. However, the Industrial Workers of the World want to promote workers solidarity, end the wages system, and overthrow the employer class. They believe in strikes and violence. Well, the AFL is a federation of unions, while the IWW is “one big union,” so that IWW members can more easily transfer from one Industrial Union to another.
The AFL has higher dues than the IWW.
The AFL sometimes supports political campaigns, the IWW does not.
The IWW has historically been more radical than the AFL, and has organized workers who the AFL refused to organize at the time. Many IWW members have been jailed for their political and/or anti-political beliefs.
