Persome reacted violently; she shouted and was very upset. She even started a heated argument with the Bishop, only to hear from him that the convict was in more need of the candlesticks than them. The Bishop was sorry to lose the candlesticks, as they were given to him by his mother. But he felt sorry that he was responsible for the convict’s behaviour by keeping them before him, which led him into temptation.
