How did aztec armor look like? What was it made of?
As Aztecs never developed the skill to smelt or fashion metal, all Aztec armor was made of wood or cotton. Warriors would take large amounts of cotton and soak it in salt brine, this would harden the cotton and make a good form of armor against enemy weapons. Most warriors also wore wooden helmets which had symbols and designs etched into them. Important and powerful warriors were also given ceremonial tunics to wear over their armor and generals wore large wooden flags on their backs. These wooden flags were used to inspire fellow troops and to frighten enemies but when the Spanish arrived they were able to easily spot generals and could use their guns to kill them from a distance, which greatly weakened their armies morale.
