How common was witchcraft amongst Aztecs?
Witchcraft is a religiously constructed view of pagan and animistic beliefs/rituals. This mainly came about as a backlash against independent thinkers, activists, and reformers who may have opposed the predominant church in an area (i.e. Roman Catholic Church, Protestant Church, or Anglican Church). Therefore, nobody during Aztec times practiced “witchcraft” per se. However, the Aztec religion contained strong elements of animism, which could be construed as “witchcraft” by some.
