How come Bulgaria was on both sides in world war 2?
Bulgaria was initially a neutral country, but it was persuaded to join the Axis powers when Germany threatened to invade the nation because it needed the land to assist Italy’s attack on Greece. Bulgaria was also promised part of Greek land in exchange. As Soviet forces raced towards the Balkans in 1944, Romania joined the Allies, allowed Soviet troops to cross through it to attack Bulgaria, and an armed rebellion overthrew the Bulgarian government. The new government ordered soldiers to not offer any resistance to the Soviets and demanded that Nazi troops leave.
