How can we compare crusades vs jihad? Which is actually worse?
n most respects, we cannot compare the atrocities and injustices that occurred during both the Christian Crusades and the Islamic Jihads, as both were enormously destructive campaigns that led to massive losses of life. The first to the third crusades were extremely destructive campaigns within the Islamic world which led to the total pillaging of a number of cities, most notably of Jerusalem. The Fourth Crusade was also extremely devastating, particularly due to the sacking of the ironically Christian Constantinople which led to the deaths of thousands and the destruction of large areas of the city. Jihads were just as destructive within the Medieval Period, particularly in their incursions into Sicily and the Iberian Peninsula.
In all, both concepts led to the total destruction and devastation of large areas of Europe and the Middle East, and neither achieved much except for expansion and death. As a whole, both are as bad as each other and should not be compared but instead seen as lesson of the dangers of using religion as an argument for conquest.
