Journalists, cricketers and political leader started to criticise the racial and communal foundations of the Pentangular tournament from late 1930s.
The following are the reasons behind the criticism ofthe Pentangular Tournament
(i) They condemned the Pentangular as a communally divisive competition that was out of place in a time when nationalists were trying to unite India.
(ii) The Pentangular tournament was played by the Europeans, the Parsis, the Hindus, the Muslims and the Rest, which comprised all the communities left over. The cricket was played on the principle of race and religion.
(iii) The colonial state and its divisive conception of India was the basis on which the Pentangular tournament was built and it died with the end of the British Raj.
(iv) The pan-West Indian team represents the entire Carribean region in internadonal cricket
