Glass is known to be a transparent material. But ground glass is opaque and white in colour. Why?

  1. Ground glass is glass whose surface has been ground produce a flat but rough finish.
  2. Ground glass has the effect of rendering the glass translucent by scattering of light during transmission thus blurring visibility while still transmitting light.
  3. To get more permanent frost, the glass may ground by rubbing with some gritty substance.
