Give an account of imbibition

Imbibition : (a) Imbibition pressure is the pressure
that increases the volume of imbibant due to increase in volume of water in the cell. Water moves along a diffusion gradient.
DPD = Imbibitional pressure - Turgor pressure s
(b) It is affected by the temperature. Some energy is
lost during the process of imbibition.
© If there is increase in temperature, the rate of
imbibition is increased.
(d) When the seeds came in contact with water, they swells up. Dry grape, if kept in water, swells up.
(e) The degree of cohesion of water molecules
determine the quantity of water absorbed.
