The distribution of the food procured by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) through government regulated shops among the poorer section of the society is called Public Distribution System.
Positive impact ofPDS are
(i) It is the most important step taken by the Government of India towards ensuring food security.
(ii) It has proved to be the most effective instrument of government polity in stabilsing prices and making food available to consumers at affordable prices.
(iii) This system, including the minimum support price (MSP) and procurement has contributed to an increase in food grain production and provided income security to farmers in certain regions.
