John describes the house of Miss Allyn as a huge house as big as the Capitol at Washington. Although, it may have had many rooms, there was hardly any furniture inside except some old horsehair lounges and some broken chairs, with a few framed pictures of ancestors on the walls. Thus, it appears that the house had seen better days.
