can someone explain related rate to me?
Related rates problems involve finding a rate at which a quantity changes by relating that quantity to other quantities whose rates of change are known.
related rates are best approached as an implicit differentiation word problem. If you are looking for the change in volume of a cylinder over time for example, you would take a derivative of pir^2h with a dv/dt added on as you want a volume at a specific time. from there, solve for dv/dt just as you would for dy/dt in implicit differentiation. I would say this is one of the three hardest topics in calc 1 so don’t get discouraged.
