Briefly discuss the history of Taekwondo.

Taekwondo is an ancient historic sports. The necessity of self-defence played a vital role in the rigin of Taekwondo. As a matter of fact, it was originated to save oneself basically from attackers. This sport resembles kung fu, judo and karate etc. These sports were also related to -self-defence. Hence, motivated by these sports, taekwondo came into existence. It is considered that taekwondo is a Korean martial art. It was very popular in eastern countries, such as Japan, China and Korea in ancient time. It was included in 1988 Seoul Olympics for demonstration purpose only. Taekwondo is such a sport in which the winner is decided by direct physical’ contact and forceful physical collisions between the two contestants, within the rules. This sport has been delimited to the age group from 14 to 35 years. Earlier, the countries like Spain, China, Japan and South Korea were dominant in taekwondo, but now it has become popular in various countries of the world, such as China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, North Korea, Nepal, India, Iran, USA, Bhutan and Spain etc. It has also been included in Asian Games and SAP Games- All taekwondo competitions, throughout the world are organised according to the rules of World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
