A report suggests that about 10 per cent of India’s recorded wild flora and 20 per cent of its mammals are oh the threatened list. Do you think, India is no more a safe heaven for wildlife?
Ans. Even though 20 per cent of wild flora and 10 per cent Indian mammals are threatened, but still India is a.safe heaven for many wildlife.
Some causes are
(i) Development activities, mining etc restricted to limited regions and now proper policies are implemented to take care of the matter.
(ii) Many part of India are tribal dominated and rural in habited which are more eco-sensitive in nature and they protect forest and wildlife in traditional methods.
(iii) Community participation in conservation of nature is a natural factor in India; Chipko, etc are example and with awareness these are also increasing.
(iv) Stringent law, legal protection sites and other projects are now in a mission mode to protect the threatened species as well as other wildlife in present and in future.
