A recombinant DNA is formed when sticky ends of the vector DNA and the foreign DNA join. Explain how sticky ends are formed and gets joined?

When restriction endonuclease cuts down the strands of the two DNA from different sources, helix opens up leading to the formation sticking ends. These ends are joined by ligases.
