A plant cell with 0.3% concentration of salt

A plant cell with 0.3% concentration of salt in its cell sap is placed in a solution with
3% concentration of salt. Answer the following
(i) What will happen to the cell?
(ii) How will you describe the concentration of the outside solution?
(iii) What changes are required to bring back the cell in normal condition?

(i) The cell will be plasmolysed due to exosmosis.
(ii) The concenteration of outside solution is hypertonic, i.e., more concenterated than the cell sap.
(iii) A plasmolysed cell can be brought back to normal conditions by placing it in a hypotonic
solution (less concentrated). This phenomenon of bringing back the cell to its normal situation is called deplasmolysis.
