A fish’s tail weighs 9 lb. Its head weighs as much as its tail plus half its body. Its body weighs as much as its head and tail. How many pounds does the fish weigh?

Answer:

Total fish weigh 72 lb.
Say, tail = x, body= y & head= z
Then x= 9 lb
As per question z = x+1/2y = 9+1/2y
Again y= x+z = 9+9+1/2y = 18+1/2y [put the value of x & z]
So, y-1/2y= 18
1/2y = 18
Then y = 36
Therefore z = 9+1/2y = 9+1/2*36 = 9+18
So z = 27
As we know that total fish weigh = head+ body + tail = x+y+z
= 9+27+36= 72 lb
